Revival/Attachment

Having left this blog untouched for 5 years, I decided to do a revival after seeing an encouraging comment left behind by an anonymous blogger. Well, I can explain why this blog has been inactive for half a decade and this is exactly what I am going to do for the revival. Let me continue from what I stopped. Before I do that, however, many thanks to my readers who continue to visit my deserted blog. The visitor count is close to 900 as of this writing.

Yes, my blogging habit fizzles out towards the end of 2005. It all began with something called “work”, or “attachment”, to be precise. My attachment was at Micron Semiconductor Asia Pte Ltd. I never worked before that. I tried looking for part-time job, but economy was just bad. Besides, I looked much younger than my age, and with my small physical size, all these were enough to dissuade employers from hiring me. Therefore, this attachment was a whole new experience for me. Being an accountancy student, I had my first (and the only one so far) hands-on experience of doing accounting jobs.

Many of my classmates were posted to CPA (Certified Public Accountant) firms. There were a lot of talks about CPA firms before our attachment commences. Most attention was placed on the big 4 CPA companies. In case you don’t know what these 4 companies are, they are: PWC (PriceWaterhouseCooper), KPMG, Deloitte, and Ernst & Young.

I didn’t know what CPA firms were about since I was posted to a manufacturing firm instead. However, based on the feedbacks I received, CPA firm is a good training ground for accountants, but not many can endure the demanding environment. It is also an avenue to learn full sets of accounting. I did partial accounting for my attachment (Accounts Payable) and I learnt plenty already, including local payments, foreign exchange, freight payments, petty cash, and fixed assets. Having to juggle work with attachment report wasn’t easy, so I forgot about this blog altogether……

PS: My attachment period was from 26 September 2005 to 17 February 2006.
