Sick!

My recorded temperature reach an all-time high of 39.4 degree celsius! Doctor told me I had flu virus! In fact, he suggested giving me MC for this monday as he think I may not recover by then. I declined as next monday is quite an important day: Project submission, meeting new IS tutor coming back from childbirth. In fact, I was supposed to meet my Audit 2 tutor as she felt that I am not progressing well for my audit 2. Failed my first audit 2 class test. Next one coming up this tuesday, must be fully prepared for it. Each classwork weigh 3% and of the several classworks, tutor will pick the 2 highest scores for our 6% classwork. You heard me. Must be consistent with your tutorial. I failed despite of my consistency.

Anyway, the project I was talking about is Event Communication. Though interesting, it has to be the most stressful IS project I have ever picked. They allowed only 2 or 3 members per group to avoid free-riders, but it is much to stressful to handle this project. Today went to school to rush through the project, but I wasn't productive due to my sickness. Feel very sorry about it. So many medicines to eat...........

P.S. Happy birthday, Stella! :)

A busy semester

After presenting WISP during 3rd week, we have AFA project presentation on week 5, and there is one on week 6 and week 7 each. It is a 15% assignment. Gosh! Projects aside, tutorials are a tussle. Most of my tutors demand preparation. Only one of them check tutorials, but the rest conduct their tutorial in a more demanding manners, making doing tutorials alone insufficient. You also have to understand the lessons well enough, or else you won't be able to know what to say when tutor ask questions. BTW, Audit 2 and CLAW are hard to understand.

Inspite of all these, I seems to be enjoying my last sem in Poly. Guess I will miss poly life, badly. I am still wondering how my attachement will turn out to be. Yes, the days will eventually come, but I don't want them to come so soon. I love my present (this word applies both ways in this instance: I love the poly life I am appreciating to the fullest right now, and the happiness and joy it is bringing me is a present). I don't like the feeling of remembering my present as a past in the future. Guess I more or less understand when Elisa lamented that happy moments don't last forever. Some may find it an irony that I refer my poly life as happy moments, but it doesn't matter to me anymore.

WISP (World Issues: Singapore Perspective)

This is the compulsory IS module. While I find this module much more interesting than PQS, I think this is due to the fact that I have a good tutor. She conduct her lessons almost like history lessons, but the stories are engaging and are very relevant to the topics she was covering. There are 3 assignments in all, but no test.

As far as the first assignment is concerned, the bad news is that it has to be presented on the 3rd week. Therefore, it is crucial to form into groups during the 1st week. You may want to negotiate with your friends to pick the same class and form into your own group even before the term starts. However, be prepared: My tutor revealed that there are tutors who purposely form groups by register numbers and is very inflexible about grouping as they don't want their students to work with people they are familiar with. Perhaps theytake teamwork seriously. However, to my advantage, my tutor don't feel the same way. Working with students you don't know, especially those from different departments, will tend to have time-table clashes. Thus, she allowed us to form our own groups.

In a sense, the next batch of students have an advantage: Our first lesson clashed with Vesak Day, leaving only one lesson on week 2 to form groups and prepare everything within 1 week. Thankfully, again, we have a good tutor. She understanding the difficulty Vesak day had put us in, so she postponed the project presentation till week 4. Better pray hard that you have a WISP tutor like mine. I have heard that some tutors conduct boring lessons, just like PQS.

Fitness awareness

I am one who don't really take good care of my own health, but I started doing so due to external factors. For one, I learnt from my social psychology that looks really matter in societies. Speaking of harsh reality, it is sad but true. Human nature, I guess. However, I believe there are exceptions. Okay, before I get too off-topic, there are 5 things to do to keep pimples away:

1) Drink plenty of water
2) Sleep well
3) Exercise regularly
4) Eat appropriately (The most difficult case to handle, but I know that dieting is not good for health, and it doesn't feel good either. Glad to know that. :-P)
5) Wash face regularly

I have been keeping the above list in check until school starts. I began having the habit of fainting on my bed right after dinner and sleep until it is almost time to prepare to leave for school, leaving myself with limited time for tutorial. It will be even more taxing when the projects come. In fact, I shouldn't be blogging now. That's why I try to blog as much as possible at one go. As for my sleepiness, guess it is contributed by my frequent exercises which cause me to be tired. Therefore, factor 2 and 3 is threatened by my current situation. Looks like I need to exercise extra self-discipline from now on, and more perseverance. Afterall, my life so far is still easy compared to my up-coming attachment and NS. Guess this is how we grow up. After NS, still have to survive in the society. Who knows, I may have to deal with marriage and even parenthood, one of the greatest challenges of a lifetime.

By the way, NS is another reason why I am trying to build and maintain my fitness level. You don't need me to elaborate on this.

Semi-successful gathering

Fomr some reasons, the meeting for TA29 was postponed from morning all the way to late evening, and attendance halved as a result. Still, everyone enjoyed themselves and our birthday girl really like the shirt we bought for her as a gift.

My 19th birthday

For some reason(s), I wasn't really excited about my 19th birthday. In fact, I really couldn't care less. I hardly tried to figure out the reasons. Anyway, though a bit upset that none of my friends initiated any birthday celebration for me, I am really grateful to receive plenty of SMSes and emails of birthday greetings. Thanks, brother, Chue Ping sister, 2 Ailing's, Jasmine, Elisa, daddy, Stella, Weikian, Shimin, Liak Teck, and Gaya. :-) (Sorry if I miss out anyone).

As usual, my parents celebrate my birthday at home, by having a cake. The only difference is that my brother is in US for a 6-months study trip, so he couldn't join us this time. 2 days later, we went to Orchard to have lunch at Han's. The food there is good and the price is cheap. Later, we went to Takashimaya at Ngee Ann City as my parents want to buy me a pair of shoes as belated birthday presents. That was planned way ahead of my birthday though. I picked a shoes which I really like and costs reasonablybefore 10% discount. As I try the shoes, the shop assistant offered me a pair of socks of testing of the shoes size. I loved the Fila socks the moment I saw it and it fits well. The shop assistant ask me if I want to buy a package of 3 pairs of those socks. Aparrently, I wanted them and they were sold to me at half price, perhaps due to our purchase of their shoes. The combined purchase barely exceeds a certain amount, so I was entitied to buy a Fila bag at $10. I picked a decent bag, which cost almost 3 times more than the offered $10. Double coincidences. An unintentional discount purchase leading to another unintentional purchase. What great birthday gifts I have this year from my parents. I love them and they cost my parents a bomb!
